Artist Profile: Thanh Chuong

Born in Ha Bac, 1948. Studied at Hanoi School of Fine Arts from 1960 until 1966 when he joined the army. Honored in Young Painters Competition at age thirteen, and for later sketches on Ho Chi Minh Trail. Has worked for twenty years as Arts Director of Van Nghe, the publication of the Writer's Association. Currently resides in Hanoi. Paints colorful scenes of rural Vietnam, and exciting self- portraits reminiscent of work by Picasso and Mattisse. Numerous exhibitions in Vietnam, most recently at the Red River, one of Hanoi's top galleries (1995), and in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.
