Rick Smolan created From Alice to Ocean and the famous Day in the Life photography series. In the spring of 1994, Smolan and 70 award-winning photojournalists embarked on a week-long assignment; to create the most intimate portrait ever of Vietnam. With the twentieth anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War approaching, Smolan wanted to document a country just now beginning to re-emerge from decades of turmoil and isolation.
