Japan is a chain of 1,000 islands lying along the eastern rim of the Asian continent. It is home to over 123 million people. Asia's economic superpower is also one of the most seismically active regions of the world, experiencing around 1,000 earthquakes a year.
Traveler Ian Wright begins his journey in the congested sprawl of Tokyo, ablaze with neon lights. By train he escapes to the ski resort of Zao Onsen. From there it's south all the way visiting the islands of Kyushu, Kagoshima, Okinawa and finally the tranquil Yaeyama Islands.
