This title highlights four painters of the first generation of modern Vietnamese artists: Nguyen Gia Tri, To Ngoc Van, Nguyen Sang and Bui Xuan Phai. They were very active in the Ecole des Beaux Arts de l'Indochine in the years 1925 through 1945, a period which is said to have marked the first contact between Vietnamese traditional art and Western art.
