Vietnamese Folk Tales: Satire and Humor
The Gioi Publishers, 1990, 4 1/2

The best way to describe this little gem is to cite one of its stories entitled What Difference? A miser sold everything he owned and bought a large ingot of gold and buried it in his garden. From time to time, he would sneak out to the hiding place and feast his eyes on the treasure. Alas, some rascal who had been spying on him found out about the buried gold and stole it. On his next visit, the miser discovered the theft and burst into tears. "Why are you so sad?," asked his neighbor, "Just bury a stone in the same place-it's exactly the same." "How can it be the same? Mine's an ingot of gold!"

"Your gold was buried underground and you never did anything with it nor will you ever put it to any use. So what difference is there between your gold and a stone?"
