Rick Smolan created From Alice to Ocean and the famous Day in the Life photography series. In the spring of 1994, Smolan and 70 award-winning photojournalists embarked on a week-long assignment; to create the most intimate portrait ever of Vietnam. With the twentieth anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War approaching, Smolan wanted to document a country just re-emerging from decades of turmoil and isolation. Granted unprecedented access by the Vietnamese government, the project team spread throughout Vietnam, visiting many areas never before open to foreigners. During this 7-day period, the team shot over 200,000 photographs. From this, 200 were selected for this gorgeous book.
