This recording introduces the fiddle that is played in northern Vietnam. Originally an instrument of accompaniment, it is increasingly becoming a solo instrument due to the feelings it is able to express. The Vietnamese fiddle has different names depending on where it comes from, its size, tuning, tone or music it can play. On this disc, three types of fiddles are presented in accompaniment as well as solo repertoires.
The principal performer on this 1998 recording is Nguyen Minh Nhuong who began to play the fiddle at age seven. He has performed in many countries throughout Europe as well as in Japan and the United States.
